Putting the shock unprotected right next to the rear tire seems like a really bad idea to me. Besides the mud and water the shock is directly exposed to, 1 rock kicked into the stanchion means a new shock/stanchion. Maybe that arch above the wheel is adequate protection, but I'd still be concerned...

I don't have a Giant. I did, and it was way more efficient than any FSR I have owned or tried. I know how to pick lines, but sometimes you don't have an easy option.
